In
many cases, a life change is what dictates the timing
on a move. Some people outgrow a home as their family
grows and they need more space. Others move because their
children are starting school and they wish to move to
a town with a better school system.
People
with grown children often find themselves with too much
house and upkeep and are now ready to downsize to a smaller
home, perhaps with a first floor master bedroom, a condo
or an apartment in the city. A job transfer or promotion,
a divorce and a new baby are all common changes that spur
a move.
In
terms of actual calendar timing, it depends on where you
are geographically. In the Boston area, spring is the
time where there will be the most serious buyers looking
at your house. Surprisingly, the spring market actually
begins in February. Many people put buying a new home
at the top of their New Year's resolutions and are anxious
to get out and start looking. Others want to be sure they
will be able to close on a house so they can settle in
before the next school year starts.
